Video Testimonials Cheat Sheet
Who should you record in your testimonials?
Start with getting a testimonial from a person that is part of your ideal target market. So, if you’re mainly trying to attract 30 to 40-year-old mothers into your studio, make sure you record a testimonial with a 30 to 40-year-old mother.
Where to record
- Choose a location in your fitness facility where you have good lighting. If the background is too bright, then the person will often appear shadowy or unclear in the video.
- Try and record the video with an enticing view inside your fitness business in the background. This will give viewers a sneak peak of your facility.
- Alternatively, if you have a wall painted with branding, position the person in front of the wall. That way your branding remains in the frame and reinforces your advertising.
Preparing the person before hitting record
- Try and make the person feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Lighten the mood.
- Talk them through the type of questions you are about to ask. You can even practice the questions and answers a few times before you start recording
- Remind them that it is okay if they stumble over their words. It only takes a minute to re-record.
Refer to a particular program
If you are going to use the testimonial to promote a particular program, such as a “6 Week Transformation” ensure that the person refers to the particular program during the testimonial.
Pre-recording Checks
- Smartphone is charged
- Smartphone has enough free space to store the video
- You have a tripod or someone with very steady hands
- Audio can be heard clearly. Do a test recording and play it back. You might need to turn off anything that is creating background noise such as a fan or music.
- If a trainer is going to be in the video ensure that they are wearing your business branded clothing.
- Talk to the client about the type of questions you will ask during the recording.
There are two basic ways to record testimonials
- You can ask the person to talk about some of the points listed below and you can record it in a single take
OR
2. You can ask the person each question and have the person respond. With this approach the video will need to be edited (which we can help with).
Sample questions to ask
- Tell me a bit about yourself (e.g. I'm a mother of 2 and I live here in )
- Tell me about your situation before you joined us
- Tell me about the decision to join
- Did you have any doubts or objections before joining?
- What has it been like working out at?
- What results did you get?
- How do you feel now?
- What would you say to someone who is considering joining?
Edit your videos
Some basic video editing will significantly improve the quality of your video. Contact us if you require any videos to be edited.
Permission to use the testimonials
We recommend getting permission to use the testimonial for promotional purposes either in writing or via email and keeping that on file.
Use the testimonials wherever possible
Make sure you promote the testimonials at every opportunity, for example:
- On your website
- Facebook page
- Emails to prospects
- Link to them from within SMSs
- Google Display Ads
Final Note
The more testimonials the better 🙂
It does not need to be perfect. As long as you get something recorded it’s a win!
